Do I need critical illness cover?

If you have dependents or people that rely on you for support, or if you are the main financial provider for your household, then it is worth considering critical illness cover. Not only does this give you peace of mind that you and your family are financially protected if you were to fall ill but you can use the money for whatever you need.

What conditions are covered?

All insurers and their critical illness policies are different, however there are several conditions that are always included, such as heart attacks, strokes and some types of cancer.

Am I eligible for critical illness cover?

We can source critical illness cover for anyone. If sometimes providers will exclude any claim arising from that prior health issue. In order to be eligible, you have to be a UK resident and some providers impose a maximum age limit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many people buy a combined life and critical illness policy, and it often makes sense to do so. In this case, a payment would be made on either diagnosis of a critical illness, or death, whichever is the sooner. If the cover is combined in this way, the policy premium is usually cheaper than it would be for separate policies, as there is only ever one lump sum paid out by the insurance company.
This is based on your individual circumstances and financial situation. Remember to take into account how much debt you have outstanding, how much may be left on your mortgage and the level of income you provide to your household, as well as any dependents you may have. In order to get an accurate quote, you will be asked to answer questions about your current health and past medical history. This determines the premium you are offered.
No, once your claim has been paid out under your policy, your policy will end unless your policy has a ‘buy-back’ option.
Some insurers will automatically include cover for your children, but for a partner or family policies, you will be charged an additional cost.
